So you’re wondering why do keyword research anyway? Well, the truth is that keyword research can be incredibly valuable to your blog, business, or whatever else you are working on! You could have the best content in the world, but it won’t matter if no-one ever gets to see it! Keyword research is the key to getting your content in front of the right audience.
How does it work?
Keyword research basically involves finding a “keyword” or narrowed down topic that your article or post is centred on. Anything can be a keyword, and often times a keyword is actually a string of words together, a phrase, or a question. Essentially, you are looking for a topic that you can provide valuable insight or information on and then ensuring you use that specific phrasing at some point within the beginning of your article.

When starting out it is recommended to go for less popular keywords that still have decent traffic. Many reffer to these as the “low hanging fruit” – there are a lot of them, and they often aren’t quite as high value but they are also much easier to get. For example, you want a keyword that isn’t already used by a bunch of big players. While initially building authority in your niche it is important to shoot for keywords that don’t already have too many search results available, but still get enough traffic and clicks to be worth your time. Often a good starting point is to think about the topic you would like to work within. Next, plugging a few related keywords into a search engine can be a good start to gauge how many pages of content google, bing, and yahoo are able to bring up.
